Macmillan Coffee Morning

Tuesday 19th September from 11am

 

We have signed up to support Macmillan Cancer Support once again.

You have always helped us enormously to raise funds for this charity so close to so many.

If you can help with providing any bakes / cakes on the day, that would be amazing. We will also be holding a raffle.

Make it a date. There’s always a buzz in the cafe for this event. Come and drink some tea and graze on cake. We’d love to see you. Cafe open 10am / event from 11am.

 

 

 

Alzheimers Society MEMORY WALK

 

Saturday 23rd September 2023

Registration: Free. Just turn up on the day!

Itinerary:

10am – Zumba warm up.

10.30am – Both 3km (wheelchair accessible) and 7km walks depart. Distances are approximate. Full routes and directions in links below:

Fundraising: Thurrock’s Dementia Friendly Community will be raising funds for the Alzheimer’s Society should you wish to donate or raise sponsorship for your walk.

Toilets and cafe available at Hardie Park. You are welcome to walk with your dog if kept on a lead at all times.

There are 10 parking spaces close to the park including 2 blue badge. On Saturdays the zig zag lines are not applicable outside the school and street parking is free in neighbouring roads. (Permit Mon to Fri only)  – Please note there is no parking available within the park grounds.

Boing Boing Boing – Summer Bounce Days 1 2 3

We’re a little excited to have a TRIO OF BOUNCE DAYS in the diary!

Working with BOUNCE ABOUT INFLATABLE’S on the following dates.
Bounce 1 Thursday 3rd August
Bounce 2 Thursday 17th August
Bounce 3 Thursday 31st August

From 11am and 4pm during the summer holidays.

Join us for some outdoor fun and frolics at Hardie Park.
Wristband £5 per child for unlimited bounce.

> Just turn up on the day for wristbands
> General bouncing suitable up to the age of 12 years
> Tiny tots area £2 all day wristband suitable for age 2-5 years / must have parent supervision

Cafe open from 10am for Rossi ice cream, coffees, snacks and toilet facilities.

Maybe aim to cycle or walk to the park, limited parking at park gates and council parking permits in place in surrounding roads.
Pay parking available in Stanford le hope at King Street SS17 0HL

The event dates could be subject to last minute cancellation on the day due to health and safety factors i.e. strong winds/ rain.

Fraud & Scam Aware Event – Tuesday 14th February

WEST Essex Fraud Prevention Co-ordinator, Caroline, is popping back to the cafe on Tuesday 14th February between 10am and 12pm to provide us all with some fraud education and fraud prevention tips. Helping us to keep safe and secure online and providing some advice on spotting possible scams and fraud.
We’d love you to come along, ask questions and take away some valuable information, its on a casual drop-in basis.
Our first session back in January was a success so a second date is in the diary.

Dementia Friends Training Session – Monday 27th March

Laura Cleverley, Dementia Friendly Communities Coordinator from the Alzheimers Society visited the cafe recently for a Dementia Friends training session with the SS17 Walkers. It was really beneficial to all who attended resulting in 18 more dementia friends in our local area.
We are now planning to open it up to the wider community to attend with a new session booked for Monday 27th March from 11am.
What can you expect?
During this friendly and interactive session you’ll learn more about dementia, how it affects a person and what you can do to help people affected by dementia in your community. Big or small, every action counts!
The session lasts between an hour to an hour and a half as a guide.

Spooky Cupcake Workshop with Jules

 

Local businesswoman Jules has recently delivered a few themed cake decorating classes from the cafe which have proved popular with our local creative community.

The first advertised Halloween themed, Spooky Cupcake Workshop on 8th October at Hardie Park sold out in no time.

Jules has added a new date for Saturday 22nd October.  Classes are from 10 until 12 in the cafe activity room costing £20 to decorate 4 spooky cupcakes.

Halloween Kids Craft session

 

Pop in for some spooky craft with Dee on Saturday  29th October.

The 11 until 1 session is just £1 per craft created.

No booking required, just turn up on the day!

Parent guardian needs to stay on site at cafe for the duration of the activity.

Macmillan Coffee Morning

Join us from 11am on Tuesday 20th September for our Macmillan Coffee Morning.

Enjoy a cuppa and cake with a friend and our cafe team whilst raising funds to support people living with cancer. If you would like to bake a cake to donate please bring to the cafe on the day.

We are also looking for raffle prizes to raise further funds. Any prize donations most welcome.

 

Vintage & Tweed Bike Ride – CANCELLED

The Vintage/Tweed Bike Ride is back on the calendar this year. Thurrock Council’s Road Safety Cycling Team are organising the event and we are hosting at Hardie. We had such a great day last year with many of you coming along to enjoy the day too. Whether you are taking part or watching the bikes leave we’d love to see you in the park for lunch/brunch/coffee.

Dementia Awareness Session

Friday 15th July – 11.30am

Dementia Awareness Session – ALL WELCOME

The cafe currently offers a caring and supportive environment for all, however as a project we are working towards achieving an official ‘Dementia Friendly’ status, This will allow us to support our community in the best way we possibly can.
A lady from Thurrock Council / Alzheimer’s Society who is Thurrock’s Dementia Specialist will be at the cafe to talk to us about understanding the early signs of dementia. During this informative session you’ll learn about dementia, how it affects a person and what we can do to help people affected by dementia in our community, every action counts!
Refreshments will be available during the session.
We would love for you to join us.
